Dr Josh Axe has developed an exceptional Detox Drink ,using many staple ingredients I love. I have built on this recipe including more gut and elimination supportive ingredients. This drink is now a delicious smoothie that can be had as a healthy meal replacement. The perfect addition to a weight loss, detox or gut health program.

Ingredients
½ cup of purified water
2 Tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar
1 pinch Cayenne pepper (optional)
2 Tbsp lemon juice, flesh, pith and zest
2 tbsp Raspberries or ½ Kiwi Fruit
1 tsp Pure Vanilla bean powder instead of stevia (I use Organic Madagascan Vanilla bean)
4-5 Pistachio nuts
1 Scoop Natural Protein Powder such as 180 nutrition superfood powder (Coconut vegan)
½ Avocado

Blend all ingredients together and enjoy
Why Have I Tampered With Josh’s Formula?
To add more antioxidants which protect our healthy cells from the inflammation and free radical damage that often occurs during a detox.
To be more satiating until the next meal.
To add more fiber which in turn improves bowel movements, gut bacterial health and elimination of waste.
So Who Are The New Recruits?
Lemon Pith and Zest - Lemons contain various flavonoids (antioxidants) which are said to have anti-inflammatory properties. Lemon polyphenols found in lemon peel have been shown to suppress body weight gain and accumulation of fat. Studies have shown that pectin (a type of fiber) and other active ingredients in lemon peel have the ability to reduce cholesterol.
Raspberries - are packed full of antioxidants, fiber and other compounds such as Raspberry Ketone (also known as Rheosmin) and tilliroside which boosts overall metabolism of fat and improves blood sugar and insulin balance. Raspberry seeds have been shown to enhance the production of Short Chain Fatty Acids (SCFA) which is important for appetite, weight loss and reducing inflammation.
Kiwifruits - are rich in phytochemicals, carotenoids and the antioxidants vitamin C and E and is a good source of fiber. Making this an ideal fruit for improving digestion and regulating bowel movements.
Pure Vanilla Bean - Vanilla is a natural sweetener that is rich in antioxidants, which protects our cells from damage and even displays antidepressant activity.
Pistachios - are rich in healthy fats, antioxidants and act as a natural prebiotic because of their non-digestible dietary fiber. This fiber feeds our good gut bacteria, stimulating their growth. They also contain phytochemicals that have the potential to positively improve the balance and diversity of your gut flora (microbiome). Pistachios are satiating and when eaten in moderation can help control body weight.
Natural protein powder - The body requires amino acids, which come from protein to detoxify well. Amino acids bind to toxins and remove them from the body. Without a good amount of protein in the diet your body will not detoxify effectively.
Avocados- are loaded with more fiber than most fruit. Most of it being insoluble. Think regular, healthy bowel movements, removal of toxins, balanced blood sugar and less cravings. Avos are also satiating, keeping you full for longer and they contain more potassium than a banana which helps your kidneys filter out toxins. In fact adding half an avocado with lunch has been shown to reduce hunger and improve satiety for up to 3-5 hours after consumption. More on Avo’s here
