Up a wall or on the floor this yin posture, "Dragonfly" is fantastic for improving the health of the Spleen, the organ that carries with it, the burden of worry and clouded thinking when it is out of balance. When the spleen is nourished and happy we tend toward more clarity of mind, a deeper connection with ourselves and harmony in our cycles such as breathing and sleeping.
So how do we tackle Dragonfly?
Dragonfly up a wall
Start with your legs straight up a wall, then let gravity draw the legs apart, your feet will slide down the wall.
When ready to come out, use your hands to push your legs together.
Lie on your back for 2 minutes following this pose.
Dragonfly folding forward
Spread your legs as wide apart as they will go.
If your hamstrings are tight, bend your knees and place a blanket or other padding underneath them.
Fold forward from the hips.
You can rest on your elbows, a blanket or hands spread out in front of you.
Stay in this pose for 3-5 minutes.
To come out of this slowly bring your hands back and knees together.
Rest on your back for 1-2 minutes.
